二ライビーチ Nirai Beach

As I leisurely descended down the wooden staircase directly behind the hotel Nikko Alivia, my curious eyes were drawn to the grey blue skies rolling in from the horizon. It wasn’t raining, yet, but the air was cool, with a thin layer of mist rolling up from the waves and resting gently on my arms and legs. The water was peaceful, almost like a sheet of glass, but it was rich in emerald turquoise hues that contrasted greatly against the dark sky.

I stepped down from the old staircase and the cool but inviting golden sand swallowed my feet whole. I looked out to the horizon and couldn’t help but feel small. For a moment I felt as if I was standing on the very edge of the world. It’s no denying that I am usually a little nervous when adventuring out in an unfamiliar area, especially when the weather is unfavorable, but, in that moment, I was fearless. It was like nothing else existed and, frankly, nothing else mattered. It made me think of the bible verse, John 14:27, “You are not alone peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you.”

The beach was speckled with large charcoal grey rock formations that were covered in vibrant green moss (or was it alge?). There were plenty of little caves and dark passage ways visitors could walk through but be careful! Throughout the day the condensation from the ocean spent it’s time building up on the cool rocks surface and would occasionally dribble water onto my shoulders, sometimes making the ground too slippery for my measly sandals. The chilly breeze was just subtle enough to refresh my spirit but intense enough that it made my skirt sway with the wind.

Not very far from the Nirai Beach was a secluded and undocumented beach, pictured above, that I was so thankful to stumble upon. With “no parking” signs scattered throughout the area, you have to be sure you walk when you explore the area but I highly recommend taking the time to do so! There were SO MANY things to do, even a horse farm! If you go, be sure to drop a comment and let me know if you liked it or anything cool you found. Until next time (and hopefully sunnier skies), Nirai Beach.
